• A "cheap" economy. We have already had the opportunity to talk about it in other posts on this blog: prices in Bulgaria are the absolute lowest in the entire EU area, almost 50% less of the average. This is why many Italian pensioners prefer to enjoy their retirement here: thanks to the halved cost of living, it is as if their social security check doubles in value every month compared to Italy.
  • A great SPA. Bulgaria is an open-pit mine. I'll tell you more: it is the country in Continental Europe that is absolutely richest in natural minerals dissolved mainly in water: in practice it is a large open-air SPA nestled between the sea and the Balkan mountains
  • On the snow in Bulgaria. Speaking of the Balkans and the mountains: do you know why Bulgaria is the favorite destination in this area for winter holidays? Because this is where the highest peaks are. One in particular, that of Mount Musala with its 3000 meters of height is absolutely the highest in the entire Balkan area.

  • Other than Greek yogurt. With all due respect to our Greek neighbors, there is no shadow of doubt in saying that the best yogurt in the world is not Greek, as is often mistakenly said, but Bulgarian. That's right already. In fact, if we remove marketing from the way, we discover that only in this land is a special yogurt produced which finds its uniqueness in a particular bacterium, lactobacillus bulgaricus, which, as the name suggests, can only be found in the dairy products of these parts and gives the yogurt a unique taste.

  • Other than Russia. Perhaps you already know that in Bulgaria the Latin alphabet is not used, as in Italy, but the Cyrillic one as in Russia so to speak. However, perhaps you don't know that this alphabet was not invented in Russia but right here in Bulgaria by the two monks (later to become Saints) Cyril and Methodius.
  • Bulgaria and roses. Maybe you have read somewhere that, on a global level, Bulgaria is absolutely among the largest producers of roses; in fact there is what is called the "rose valley". But what you may not know is that Bulgaria produces more than 2/3 of all rose oil in the world, an ointment used in the production of perfumes, soaps and hair and body cleansers.

  • Whoever finds Bulgaria finds a treasure. How many times have you heard of pirates and hidden treasures. Well we can tell you that the first great gold jewelery treasure in history was found in Bulgaria 7000 years ago. The discovery was made in the Varna Necropolis and refers to a treasure hidden here in 5000 BC.
  • Who invented computers? Americans? Russians? You are off track. The first electronic computer in history was invented by John Atanasoff of Bulgarian origins. This, perhaps, explains why this nation is still home to top-level engineers today.
  • Tax pressure. We have already talked about it in other posts, but we repeat it. To date, Bulgaria is the EU state with the lowest tax burden ever. The equivalent of the Italian IRPEF in Bulgaria is with a fixed rate of 10% for both natural and legal persons, even for the highest incomes.
  • Yes or no? We conclude our roundup with what is truly a curiosity that few know. If, in Bulgaria, someone answers your question by shaking their head left and right, you know that they are saying yes. So reprogram your conversation standards.
